Give five! to PICU patients in Osijek, Croatia
– a humanitarian action “Daj pet!”
In Osijek, Croatia, Foundation ‘Milo moje’ introduced a major humanitarian action ‘Daj pet!’ (“Give five!”) with a two-months goal of collecting financial means for an extension, arrangement and modernization of Paediatric Intensive Care Unit’s premises in Osijek’s Clinical Hospital. Children from their earliest age of one month up to the age of 18 yr receive hospital treatment at the department whilst between 600 and 650 life endangered children from all parts of Eastern Croatia are treated there annually.
„For treatments of the most severely sick children, beside knowledge, effort and affection that are beyond any question, financial means are required: intensive care medicine is the most expensive known medicine since it requires modern space and equipment as well as top-educated specialized staff. Unfortunately, Osijek’s Paediatric Intensive Care Unit – one of only six PICUs in Croatia, is the only such department in Croatia that has not been significantly renovated or equipped with recent specialized medical gear“, Igor Berecki, MD, Head of PICU and Foundation Trustee stressed out.
Motivated by generating better conditions for medical treatment of children with the heaviest illnesses in eastern Croatian region of Slavonia, the humanitarian action is already joined by numerous extinguished citizens and institutions, such as the town of Osijek but also throughout Croatia.
On behalf of Osijek’s Clinical Hospital humanitarian action was supported by the General Manager Željko Vranješ, PhD and Senior Nurse Terezija Farkaš, Assistant to General Manager for Health Care.
„Milo moje“ Foundation’s Institutor Miroslav Škoro, a popular Croatian singer and songwriter, encouraged everyone to participate in the humanitarian action: „I sincerely thank everyone who supports our Foundation’s activity. The initial financial assets were only a sea drop for our beneficiaries’ needs and we are heading a long way that can only be achieved with your help. Do launch in action „Daj pet!“ Let us „give five“ to children’s hands and we will most definitely receive it in return in the future.“
The action’s zenith will manifest through humanitarian concerts that will be held simultaneously on main town squares on December 10th, both in Osijek and Zagreb, transmitted in live by Croatian Radio Television – main media sponsor of the action.
